Chocolate marble cake

WhatKeeranEats

Such an easy and delicious cake to make. It’s also a great one to get kids involved with making, not only do they get to lick the bowl but the cake is really simple. All ingredients (except for the cocoa and chocolate) are combined at the first step and it’s not easy to get wrong.

  • Prep time: 10 minutes
  • Cook time: 45 minutes
  • Total time: 55 minutes

Ingredients

  • 115 g unsalted butter, softened
  • 115 g caster sugar
  • 140 g self raising flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 20 g chocolate, melted

Method

  • 1)

Start by preheating the oven to 140 degrees (fan)

  • 2)

In a large bowl, combine the margarine or butter, sugar, flour, baking powder, eggs, and milk. Whisk the ingredients to mix them really well

  • 3)

Divide the mixture in half. Place one half in a separate bowl

  • 4)

Mix the cocoa with 1 and a half tbsp of warm water and mix well. Add this cocoa mix to one of the bowls and mix thoroughly until evenly distributed

  • 5)

Take a loaf tin and line with greaseproof paper. Spoon the vanilla and chocolate cake mixtures alternately into the loaf tin until all the mixture is used

  • 6)

Take a cocktail stick or chopstick and use it to make the marble pattern by run it up and down the mixture. But don’t mix the whole cake together

  • 7)

Bake in the oven for 45-50 minutes until the cake is well risen, springy to the touch, and a cocktail stick inserted in the middle comes out clean. After a minute, remove the cake from the tin and allow it to cool

  • 8)

Once the cake has cooled, melt the milk chocolate and drizzle it over the top
